We called the colorway ‘Lejía’ because when I got to Lima, my uncles and aunts started showing me pictures of them in their youth. I noticed that everyone was always wearing white, from head to toe. I turned to my tia and asked why. She simply said - “when you grow up as poor as we did, you couldn’t afford different colors, we had to stick to the cheapest cotton - and that comes in white. The most cost-effective way to wash and keep those garments clean was to use Lejía” - what I later pieced together was simply, bleach. - Orlando
